"Hey" Ladies

Pitchfork recently published an article on people who lip-synch songs on YouTube. Miraculously, the article did not include these two lovely girls synching "Hey" from The Pixies.

Or is it these ladies synching to The Pixies? The former ladies did it first, but consider the possibility that the new trend amongst female teenyboppers is to lip sync to The Pixies and put it on the Web!

Will this be a music revolution akin to Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit?" Will cheerleaders start lip-synching to Lou Reed's "Satellite?" Will there be a post-punk "American Idol?" Or will this fizzle like the supposed electronica revolution of '97?

Nevermind the implications for pop culture -- how would this affect a Platonic idealist? According to Plato, the ideal thing was important, the real thing second most and the artwork least important because it was twice-removed from the ideal.

So The Pixies "Hey" is twice-removed from the ideal.
The first lip-synching video is thrice-removed because of the lip-synching.
The second lip-synching video is an imitation of an imitation! The internet has happily laid waste to essentialism and idealism!

FYI, though both videos have lovely girls, I fear they are too young for me. Call me old-fashioned, but older, dirtier, junkie-chic bassists are catnip for me. Reeow!
